Team India faced an unexpected and embarrassing defeat against England in the first Test of the five-match series. After being in a strong position on the fourth day of the game, the visitors lost the momentum on the last day and lost the game by 5 wickets. It happened first time in the cricket history when a team lost the Test match after having five centurions on its side.

Meanwhile, the India head coach Gautam Gambhir is facing an all-corner criticism for his strategies and approach. Notably, the team has only one Test game, alongside seven defeats and a draw in the last nine games under Gambhir’s coaching. Apart from defeat against England in Headingley Test, it also includes India’s defeat against Australia in BGT 2024-25 by 3-1 following a whitewash against New Zealand in a home three-match Test series.

Amidst all this, former India batter and now the commentator, Aakash Chopra came up with a reality check for India head coach Gautam Gambhir.

"If it is bad, then criticism is absolutely obvious" - Aakash Chopra

Chopra feels that Gambhir has been given all the resources he wanted and now it’s a high time when he should deliver. It also reflects in the fact that Gambhir’s coaching policies are under the scanner.

“This is the principle of Indian cricket, and it is true that if it is good, then everyone is proud of it. But if it is bad, then criticism is absolutely obvious. I will still be more patient with Shubman Gill because he has just become the captain. It will take him some time to understand,” said Aakash Chopra in a video on his YouTube channel.

“There is a lot of pressure on Gautam Gambhir. The pressure is absolutely mounting. If you look at his performances in Test cricket and red-ball cricket, you will find that he has not won a lot of matches. He has won 2 matches against Bangladesh and one against Australia. However, we lost three against New Zealand, three against Australia and one against England. He has been losing and losing,” he added later.
