Team India is set to play Bangladesh in their 2nd Super Eight match in the T20 World Cup on Sunday. While the action on the field of play is leaving everyone captivated, the drama of the field is equally exciting.

Rahul Dravid is set to step down as the coach of the Indian team at the end of the tournament. It is widely believed that Gautam Gambhir is in the drivers seat to become the new coach of the national side.

The former Indian opener was recently in an event called the ‘Rise to leadership’. During the event he was asked about his Indian coaching ambitions. Replying to this Gautam Gambhir said "I don't see that far ahead. You are grilling me, asking me all tough questions”

During the course of the ‘Rise to Leadership’ seminar, Gautam Gambhir also said “It is difficult to answer right now. All I can say is that I'm happy being here, just finished a brilliant journey and let's enjoy that. I'm in a very happy space right now”

It was Gautam Gambhir’s return to KKR that led the revival in their fortunes. Shreyas Iyer and his team won the IPL 2024 title bringing home their 3rd title. Gautam Gambhir had already won two titles for KKR as the skipper and this third title came in his role as a mentor.

During the summit, the former Indian legend also said “If you have the intent of keeping your team ahead of any individual, things will fall in place. If not today, tomorrow, if not tomorrow, someday it will fall in place. But if you start thinking on that, or if you know that you need to help one or two individuals perform, then your team will only suffer."

The 42-year-old also went on to say “For me, the guru mantra is team first philosophy. I think team-first ideology, team-first philosophy is the most important ideology in any team sport”.

It is to be seen what decision BCCI has come up with in the next few days. Team India is set to tour Zimbabwe next and VVS Laxman is set to be named as the interim coach. The five match series in Zimbabwe will start on 6th July and this will be followed by a tour to Sri Lanka, where India plays 3 ODI and T20I matches.
