Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been feeling the pressure of constant criticism over his poor run of form. The 37-year-old was out for just three runs when he was dismissed by Pat Cummins on day two of the MCG Test match on Friday. With just 22 runs from four innings, Rohit has been going through the worst patch of form.

Reports emerged on Friday that Ajit Agarkar, the Indian chief selector, will have a word with Rohit about his Test future. Those reports, though, are unsubstantiated claims that Rohit Sharma could be asked to retire if India don’t make the WTC finals.

Noted commentator Harsha Bhogle asked Mark Waugh, “Rohit Sharma is clearly struggling. Mark Waugh, would you give him another Test in Sydney?” To which the former Aussie star said, “I would, as he is leading the team, but he hasn’t been good at all. You need performance from your skipper, but Rohit is out of form.”

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan chimed in to say, “His reflexes have gone slow, and Rohit is getting out on balls that he used to hit for big shots." Even former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar had suggested that Rohit’s reflexes had slowed down. The 75-year-old also hinted that constant breaks have played a part in Rohit’s bad form.

Sunil Gavaskar speaks on Rohit Sharma’s Test future

Former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar, during his chat with Sports Tak, said, “The next three innings will decide Rohit Sharma's Test future. I wasn't in favour of Team India's decision to drop Shubman Gill and pick Washington Sundar for the fourth Test; it's beyond my comprehension.”

The Indian legend also added during his chat with Sports Tak, “We all know it's India's batting which is suffering the most in the series. And why did you demote your most consistent batter, KL Rahul? Rohit should have come at No. 3 himself. These questions will certainly be raised.”

Rohit Sharma has one more inning and one more Test in Sydney to save his career. The 37-year-old is also under pressure to keep India’s hopes of the WTC Finals alive. Rohit had missed the 1st Test in Perth as he flew in late due to the birth of his child just before the tour began.
