Worcestershire cricketer Josh Baker dies at the age of 20 club pen heartfelt tribute

Worcestershire Cricket Club announced on Thursday the passing of 20-year-old spin bowler Josh Baker. The club did not disclose the cause of his death.

The England cricket fraternity has been left shocked by the news of the death of star player Josh Baker at the age of just 20 on May 2. Notably, the left-arm spinner signed his first contract with Worcestershire back in 2021, when he was just 17 years old. He left everyone stunned by picking up 43 wickets in just 22 first-class matches. Moreover, the great cricketer was in the headlines when he made his career-best 75 runs against Gloucestershire back in July 2023.

However, the club's chief executive confirmed the shocking news about the young gun passing on May 2. Giles also said that the news has left the England team in a shocking phase. In addition, he also talks about how Josh was an integral part of the England cricket teamand his role in the team.

"The news of Josh's passing has left us all devastated. Josh was much more than a teammate; he was an integral part of our cricket family. We will all miss him terribly. All our love and prayers go out to Josh's family and friends," Ashley Giles, Worcestershire's chief executive, said.

Meanwhile, England Test skipper Ben Stokes was also devastated after Josh Baker passed away at such a young age. The left-handed batter talks about his vibrant spirit and ethusiasm, which have melted everyone's hearts on the England cricket team. The southpaw has further requested from fans and media to give Josh's family some privacy at such a crucial time.

"You've got serious potential and [I] think you'll go a long way. Most important opinion is from the lads in your changing-room and they will always have your back. This coming from someone who got meeeeeeeelted in a T20 World Cup final. During this profoundly difficult time, the club is dedicated to supporting Josh's family, friends, and colleagues. We are united in our grief and committed to honouring his memory in a manner befitting the remarkable person he was," Ben Stokes said.
