India captain Rohit Sharma has been targetted by former players and experts after several failed performances in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Even before this series, when India played against New Zealand, Rohit's performance was below par. The selectors had shown confidence in him and handed him the captaincy in the BGT series but he hasn't been impressive yet. Hence, former player Aakash Chopra bashed Rohit and asked him whether he would drop himself for the team or not.
"Will he drop himself in the team's interest? I am not saying retirement. I am saying sitting out the Sydney Test as he is unable to contribute. It will be a fair call to take. But will he take that call and if he doesn't, will the selectors take that call mid-tour? Gautam Gambhir and Ajit Agarkar, guys you are on the spot this time," said Aakash Chopra.
The questions should be raised with the selectors and the coach because they are the ones who made the team. Rohit has blamed the youngsters for not taking the game till the end but didn't speak about his form or his performance. Also, the kind of captaincy done by the player isn't satisfactory either. There are a lot of issues with the current Indian team, and the selectors will have to find a way out before the WTC finals slip away.

Rahul was doing well as an opener: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra also slammed Rohit Sharma for dropping Shubman Gill and asking KL Rahul to play at No.3. Rahul was playing beautifully as an opener, and so was Gill. This was one of the most unnecessary decisions in the series, and it was more in favour of Rohit than the Indian team.
"For the first time as a captain, he took a call totally in his interest. It wasn't a call in the team's interest. It couldn't have been in the team's interest as (KL) Rahul was doing well as an opener. So you should have allowed him to continue. Shubman Gill was playing decently at No. 3. He is your second-highest run-scorer in Tests this year," added Aakash Chopra.
