Veteran cricketer KL Rahul has pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game to be played on Monday. The 32-year-old who was part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) squad was set to take on his former side Lucknow Super Giants in the fourth game of the IPL season. The match is set to be played at the Dr. YS Rajasekara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium.
Rahul, as per reports carried by CRICBUZZ has gone back to Mumbai on Sunday night. It has come to light that KL Rahul and his actress wife Athiya Shetty are set to welcome their first child. The reports also stated that Delhi Capitals have let the veteran batter to be with his wife to welcome the newest addition to the family.
It was also reported that Rahul will be back in time to join the Delhi squad for the second match of the season. Delhi will be hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam on 30th March. The 32-year-old was picked up by Delhi Capitals during the IPL 2025 Auctions after quitting Lucknow Super Giants at the end of the last campaign.
Axar Patel set to make his captaincy debut for Delhi Capitals
The 31-year-old Axar Patel is set to make his captaincy debut for Delhi Capitals against LSG. Patel has replaced Rishabh Pant who is leading Lucknow Super Giants after being purchased for INR 27 Crores. In KL Rahul’s absence, Abhishek Porel will be expected to step up to take up his duties as the wicketkeeper batter for the side.
Tristan Stubbs could be the other wicketkeeping option along with young Kumar Kushagra. So far, the two teams have played each other on five occasions with LSG winning three encounters and Delhi winning two. The last time these two sides met was in the 2024 season which Delhi Capitals went on to win.
Rishabh Pant ended his long stint with Delhi Capitals after leading them to a mid table finish last season. Pant, became the costliest player in the history of the IPL during the Auction last year. KL Rahul, who had led LSG had declined the captaincy ahead of the season prompting the team management to hand the captaincy to Axar Patel.
