In what seemed to be a surprise for the cricket fans, be it in the Wankhede Stadium and on the television screens, Chennai Super Kings players were seen wearing black armbands throughout the entire game against Mumbai Indians. It all happened in the recently concluded 38th fixture of the Indian Premier League 2025.

Here’s the tragic reason behind CSK’s black armbands

In a tragic piece of news, star CSK batter Devon Conway’s father passed away a couple of days back. To mourn this massive loss of their teammate, the CSK players wore black armbands to pay a tribute to Conway’s late father. The visuals of CSK players wearing these armbands also started circulating on X (formerly Twitter) by a lot of cricket fans.

Speaking of the action of the game between MI and CSK at Wankhede in Mumbai, the MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first. Batting first, MS Dhoni’s men posted 176 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, owing to the brilliant half-centuries scored by Ravindra Jadeja (53 runs off 35 balls) and Shivam Dube (50 runs off 32 balls). Besides that, debutant Ayush Mhatre also impressed everyone with 32 runs off 15 balls, with 4 fours and two sixes.

MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah scalped 2 wickets, alongside a wicket each bagged by Deepak Chahar, Ashwani Kumar, and Mitchell Santner.

Later in the second innings, Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav completely dominated the CSK bowling and led MI to a comfortable win by a massive 9-wicket margin. Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten knock of 76 runs off 45 balls, with 4 fours and six sixes, alongside SKY’s 68 runs off just 30 balls, with six fours and five sixes, to help their side score 177 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket in only 15.4 overs.

Rohit Sharma also won the player of the match award for his match-winning knock in MI’s favour.
