Team India head into the second day of Melbourne Test match with a view to bowl out the hosts and bat well. Australia started the day at 311/6 with Steve Smith batting along with skipper Pat Cummins. On the second day of the Test match, all members of Indian cricket team were seen wearing black arm bands.
The move is to honor the memory of Late Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh who passed away on early Thursday evening. Manmohan Singh was India’s Prime Minister from 2004-2014. The former PM’s passing was declared later in the day and Team India showed its respect by wearing the black arm band.
It is a huge day for Rohit Sharma and his men who will want to bowl well. On Thursday, Sam Konstas led the way with the bat and scored 60 runs on his Test debut. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne were out for 57 and 72 each. Steve Smith was batting on 68 when play was called off on the 1st day.
Virat Kohli fined for altercation with Sam Konstas on opening day
Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli was in the news for his shoulder barge with debutant Sam Konstas on Thursday. After the incident, Kohli has been fined 20% of the match fees. Andy Pyrcroft also levied one demerit point to the veteran India star for the altercation on the first day.
Former England spinner Monty Panesar has slammed Kohli’s action during his chat with Times of India where he said, “The fact is this youngster rattled India. It’s as simple as that. He threw punches at them, played a few shots and they didn’t like it. He played his reverse scoop shots and hit Jasprit Bumrah for a six over third-man. Which I think hurt India’s ego, then Kohli doing that, he obviously instigated it.”
The former England spinner said that the clash between the two players wasn’t needed at all, "He is a 19-year-old kid and it was unnecessary for Kohli to do it. A lot of people know the answer to that, but then I suppose that’s how he plays his cricket.” Konstas though put the fight behind during an interview and termed it as ‘emotions taking over’
