Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals by 59 runs in the 63rd IPL 2025 game to qualify for the tournament’s playoff stage. The game was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday, May 21. DC’s stand-in skipper, Faf du Plessis, won the toss and asked MI to bat first. Batting first, the hosts posted 180 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Suryakumar Yadav smashed 73 runs off just 43 balls, with seven fours and four sixes, alongside the quick, fiery knock of Naman Dhir, who scored 24 runs off just 8 balls, with two fours and two sixes. Mukesh Kumar scalped 2 wickets, alongside a wicket each bagged by Dushmantha Chameera, Mustafizur Rahman, and Kuldeep Yadav for DC in the first innings.
While chasing the target, the Delhi Capitals were bundled at the score of just 121 runs in 18.2 overs. Only the middle-order batter Sameer Rizvi showed a bit of resilience, scoring 39 runs off 35 balls, with six fours and a six. Star pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and spin-allrounder Mitchell Santner scalped 3 wickets each at just 12 and 11 runs, respectively. Besides these two, Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, Will Jacks, and Karn Sharma scalped a wicket each for MI in the second innings.
With this win, MI have become the fourth team to qualify for the playoffs of the ongoing 18th edition of the Indian Premier League.
