After enduring a dismal run of form and some horrific experiences on and off the field in the Indian Premier League 2024, Mumbai Indians are trying their best to tick all the boxes ahead of the tournament’s upcoming edition in IPL 2025. Making efforts for the same concern, the MI think tank has made some major changes in the team’s backroom staff.
In the same line of the events, Mumbai Indians have roped in the experienced English coach, Carl Hopkinson as the team’s new fielding coach ahead of the 18th edition of the tournament. The five-time champions have also relieved the former head coach Mark Boucher of his responsibilities.
Notably, Sussex’s Hopkinson will replace the MI’s Kiwi fielding coach James Pamment, who had been a part of the staff when the team won two successive titles in IPL 2019 and 2020. However, one of the most successful teams in the tournament’s history is aiming to get out of the horrible memories of their miserable run of form between IPL 2022 and 2024.
The successful credentials of Carl Hopkinson give a ray of hope for MI
Speaking of Hopkinson, he has been one of the successful fielding coaches for the national side of England; the 43-year-old served the Three Lions in their successful World Cup-winning campaign in ODI World Cup 2019. It was later followed by the Englishmen winning the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia after defeating Babar Azam’s Pakistan in the tournament’s final.
Hopkinson has had an amazing decade of achievements and accolades to his name in the curriculum vitae. He could be one of the perfect fits in the MI’s backroom staff in their hope of coming back to the winning ways in the tournament’s next edition.
Returning to the changes in MI’s coaching staff, the former Sri Lanka legend Mahela Jayawardene will take over as the team’s head coach, replacing Mark Boucher. The former Sri Lanka skipper will be accompanied by two of his former MI teammates, Kieron Pollard as batting coach and Lasith Malinga as bowling coach.
