Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper Rishabh Pant was greeted with a loud cheer as he came out for the toss. It was LSG who won the toss and Pant chose to put Sunrisers Hyderabad into bat in the seventh game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Avesh Khan made his way into the playing XI to replace Shahbaz Ahmed.

The 28-year-old pacer was one of the four players who were battling fitness issues ahead of the new season. Left-arm seamer Mohsin Khan is already ruled out of the campaign with Shardul Thakur coming in as the replacement. Mayank Yadav has started bowling in the nets while Akash Deep’s status is still unknown.

In the first match of the current campaign being played at the same venue, SRH had posted 286 on the board. Just like Pant, it was Rajasthan skipper Riyan Parag who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Lucknow come into the game on the back of their loss to Delhi Capitals in the opening game.

Speaking at the toss, Rishabh Pantsaid, “We will bowl first. I think we got to get them out early and look to chase the target. It depends on the team combination, that's why we want to bowl first. We have the batting to chase it down. The only change is Avesh comes back, and Shahbaz misses out. We're gonna chase whatever they score, doesn't matter.”

Sunrisers skipper Pat Cummins said, “It doesn't change the way our boys go about it, we always try to be positive. It's great fun. You know what you are signing up for coming into this tournament. Even going for 10 or 11 runs in an over, that can be match-winning on somedays. We want to win games as a team and do well as a bowling unit. Hopefully we score big. We are playing with the same team as the other day”

The last encounter between the two sides at this venue saw Lucknow’s bowlers get smashed to all parts of the ground. Chasing 165 to win, SRH managed to win the game with 62 balls left to play and all ten wickets in hand. Travis Head had scored a 16-ball 50 while fellow opener Abhishek Sharma had scored his fifty off 19 balls.
