The T20 World Cup is upon and in just under 48 hours we will see the United States of America take on Canada in the first game of the campaign. Team India hasn't won an ICC title for 11 years and Rohit Sharma and his side will want to end the wait. The former T20 World Cup winners will begin their campaign on 5th June with a game against Ireland.

Team India are in the same group as Pakistan, USA, and Canada. Their big clash against their arch-rivals happens on the 9th of June in what is likely to be a fully packed stadium in New York.

It is expected that the Indian team will make it past the group phases as one of the top two sides. After the group phase matches, Team India will enter the Super Eight stages and this is where the competition could get tougher.

Here are the likely opponents for India if they qualify for the Super 8 Stages

India vs New Zealand – 20th June

The Kiwis have been India’s biggest bogey team in the ICC tournaments. The last time these two teams met an ICC event was during the 2023 ODI World Cup Semi-Finals which India went on to win. If India qualifies for the Super 8 Stages of the T20 World Cup 2024, they could face New Zealand as their first opponent on the 20th of June. It will be an interesting battle as the Kiwi bowlers have generally had the wood over India in recent encounters.

India vs Sri Lanka – 22nd June

The rivalry between India and Sri Lanka has been one of the oldest and the fiercest in terms of natural talents both sides have. India still remembers the painful loss to the Island side during the 2014 T20 World Cup finals. The likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesha Pathirana will want to avenge the two painful losses India dished out last year in the ODI format.

India vs Australia – 24th June

For the third time in under a year, India and Australia could battle it out in a major ICC event. The Aussies had beaten India in the finals of the World Test Championships and ICC ODI World Cup 2023 to win the titles. Rohit Sharma is still nursing the wounds of those two losses and a potential third meeting during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 could give the Indians a chance to vanquish the Aussies and bury the ghosts of 2023.
