33-year-old Karun Nair has shot to fame recently, thanks to his run blitz during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Nair has scored 752 runs so far and has been dismissed just once ahead of the final match of the tournament against Karnataka. After his spectacular form, Nair is in contention for a sensitive return to the national side.

In his first game as captain, Delhi Capitals lost by ten wickets to Punjab Kings. Nair scored 11 with the bat which was the joint second highest score of the game.
After this loss, Nair led his side in two more games and won both to end his IPL captaincy record with a 66.66-win percentage. The veteran batter registered his first win as IPL skipper against Sunrisers Hyderabad followed by a second win against Gujarat Lions. Having been set 209 to win, Delhi Capitals won by seven wickets with 15 balls to spare as Rishabh Pant scored 97 runs from 43 balls.
Karun Nair’s complete record in Indian Premier League
IPL 2013 saw Karun Nair make his Indian Premier League debut for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) against Mumbai Indians. In his debut game, the young batter was out for a duck falling to Jasprit Bumrah, who was also making his IPL debut. So far, Nair has represented four teams in the IPL and will be playing for Delhi Capitals during the coming season.
In 83 matches, Nair has scored 1496 runs with a best of 83 not out which is one of his 10 half-centuries. The 33-year-old has an average of 23.74 and a strike rate of 127.75. Karun Nair played just two games in his debut season before moving to Rajasthan Royals where he played two seasons.
During the 2014 season, Nair scored 330 runs which included three half-centuries with a best of 73 not out against Delhi Capitals. The batter had a lean 2015 season where he scored 181 runs with just one fifty. In 2016, Nair moved to Delhi and scored 357 runs with a best of 83 not out that came against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The 33-year-old hasn’t played much IPL since the 2018 season with a total of 8 matches till his final appearance in the 2022 season. This year, Karun Nair returns to Delhi Capitals after he was picked for INR 50 Lakhs during the auction held in November. Considering his rich run-scoring form Delhi fans will hope Nair can continue his form and help the side win their first IPL title.
