Jasprit Bumrah is the best bowler in the world, and under his captaincy, India did fairly well in the first Test match against Australia. In Perth, India defeated the mighty Aussies by 295 runs, starting the series on a great note. Apart from that, his bowling throughout the series was phenomenal. He claimed 32 wickets in just nine innings and also won the Player of the Series award for his prolific performance.
Speaking about his captaincy, former India cricketer Kapil Dev was asked whether Bumrah should get a longer run as a captain. He replied, "If he has been given the opportunity (to captain India in Tests), then give him some time also."
In the last game of the series, Bumrah couldn't bowl and was rushed to the doctors to get a checkup done. As per the reports surfacing on the internet, Bumrah is set to miss the league stage of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. He will be included in the team but won't play in the league matches because of injury. If the reports are to be trusted, India would be in huge trouble, missing out on the best bowler of the team.
I don't want to criticise them: Kapil Dev
The former India captain was also asked about his opinion on the players excluded for the upcoming T20I series against England, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant. The former player subtly refused to criticise the selectors and said that they would have thought of some strategy before excluding the players.
"How can I comment on the judgement of others? I think the selectors would have thought about it. So, if I say something, it would be criticising them. I don't want to criticise them. They (selectors) are a group of people who must have planned and thought about that," added Kapil Dev.
