The Women's T20 World Cup 2024 is set to start on October 3 in the UAE. After facing a lot of turmoil regarding the venue, the World Cup will finally occur in the UAE. Ten teams will participate in the marquee event and be divided into two groups A and B. Harmanpreet Singh will be leading the Indian team and will have high hopes to win the tournament after their male counterparts did it in June 2024.
A huge step was taken by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as they equalized the prize money of the women's tournament with that of men's. ICC scripted history with this decision as cricket became the first sport to equalise the prize money for both men and women. Now, the winner of the women's tournament will receive a prize money of USD 2.34 million.
This amount increased by 134 percent as the previous prize money was USD 1 million while the current prize money is $7,958,080
. The group stages will be tough for India as they will play against teams like New Zealand, Australia and Pakistan. Moreover, the tournament will end on October 20, and until then, all the women will have to try to play well for their country. The Indian team will definitely look to end their trophy drought in the tournament as the players are in form and can easily win games in crunch situations.
Group A: Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
Group B: South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Scotland
