‘We can beat them any day’ – WATCH: Harmanpreet Kaur throws challenge to Australia ahead of Women’s T20 World Cup

Indian women's cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has thrown a challenge to Australia ahead of the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup starting in October.

Indian women’s cricket captain Harmanpreet Kaur has thrown the gauntlet to Australia ahead of the T20 World Cup to be played in UAE. Team India is slotted in the same group as Australia along with New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan. The first match for Indian Eves is against New Zealand while they took on Australia in their final league match. 

The official Instagram handle of the International Cricket Council put out the statements made by India’s skipper. Kaur said, “Look, their team is good, no doubt about that. They also know that India is one of the teams that can challenge them. I think that is a really positive sign. We know that whenever we play against them, we can beat them any day, any time.”

India and Australia met each other in the finals of the 2020 Women’s World Cup final at the famous MCG stadium. The home team batted first and scored 184/8 with Beth Mooney (78) and Alyssa Healy (75) top-scoring with the bat. In reply, India were bowled out for 99 as Deepti Sharma top scored with 33 and Megan Schutt picked 4 wickets. 

Harmanpreet Kaur confident of winning the title 

Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian skipper during her chat with the media was carried on ICC’s Instagram handle also said, “Winning the title after so many years is a great opportunity for us. They know we are a strong team. We just want to play good cricket and stay focused on what will help us beat them.”

While speaking about the team chosen for the tournament, Kaur added, "If I talk about this team, we have a few players who have been playing for a long time and know their roles really well. I'm quite confident with this team, and I can say that, yes, it's the best team going into the World Cup.”

When asked about the reversal in the Asia Cup final loss to Sri Lanka, the veteran India star said, “During the Asia Cup, we played really good cricket, if I talk about the entire tournament. It was just one odd game that day when things didn't go according to the way we wanted. We sat and discussed how we wanted to work on our shortcomings in the camps and where we can improve if next time these kinds of situations arise."
