Virat Kohli: (X)

India's star batter Virat Kohli is set to miss the first ODI game against England as informed by captain Rohit Sharma during the toss. Kohli, who featured in the Ranji game against the Railways, sustained a knee injury last night, which caused him to miss the first game. While it's a matter of concern for the Indian team, they brought in Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is making his ODI debut in the game.

It's very rare for Kohli to miss an ODI game despite being in the squad. The last time it happened was in the Asia Cup 2023, where the 36-year-old player was on the squad but was still rested for one game against Bangladesh, as it was a dead rubber. India had already won two games and qualified for the next round of the tournament. It was a spectacular show as Shubman Gill hit a century in the match.

However, India lost the game by six runs as they failed to chase the target of 266 runs. The then-captain of Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan, scored a magnificent knock of 80 runs in 85 balls, including six boundaries and three sixes. It was a close game, but India's middle order struggled to score runs, leading to the defeat.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana receive their ODI caps before the first game against England

Ahead of the first ODI against England, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana receive their debut caps from Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami, respectively. It was a dream come true moment for both players as they were included in the playing XI. While Jaiswal has been playing Tests and T20Is for India, Rana recently made his debut in both Test and T20I.

This is an important series for both teams ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. They'll hope to perform well and get back in form, which will be extremely important as each game will be kind of a knockout game for the teams. India will be playing all of their Champions Trophy games in Dubai.
