Mumbai Indians aim to break unwanted streak on Sunday
The last time Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings was in the IPL 2022 season. Rohit Sharma and his side won the game by five wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in what was a low-scoring affair. Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first as CSK were bowled out for just 97 runs.
Australian seamer Daniel Sams wreaked havoc in the first over of the game to remove Devon Conway and Moeen Ali for no score. The left-arm seamer then got the key wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad for seven runs caught by Ishan Kishan in the fifth over. The best batter for CSK on that day was skipper MS Dhoni who was not out on 36 off 33 balls with four boundaries and two sixes.
Needing a mere 98 to win, MI lost Ishan Kishan (6) and Daniel Sams (1) to left-arm seamer Mukesh Choudhary. Rohit Sharma scored 18 runs off 14 balls with four hits to the fence, Simarjeet Singh got the wicket of MI skipper caught by MS Dhoni in the fourth over. Tristan Stubbs was out for a duck to become Mukesh’ third wicket of the day.
Tilak Varma and Hrithik Shokeen then added 48 runs for the fifth wicket to seal the game for MI. Varma was not out on 34 while Tim David’s two sixes helped Mumbai win the game by five wickets in hand and 31 balls to spare. Since then, Chennai has won two games at the Wankhede and two matches at home. Hardik Pandya will hope to end this streak with a win and also potentially put CSK out of the tournament.
