The fourth match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will see Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) take on Delhi Capitals (DC). The two sides are packed with huge names that can change the course of the game on their own. It is also a huge test for Rishabh Pant who is now part of LSG as the captain of the side. Pant is the costliest player in the league having been picked up for INR 27 Crores.

Axar Patel who has been named as the new captain of Delhi Capitals heads into the new campaign with huge responsibility on his shoulder. The 31-year-old has been in tremendous form with the bat and ball for India in the white-ball format in recent times. Axar who also happens to be the vice-captain in the white ball format, will be coming up against his former teammate.

The game also assumes significant importance with KL Rahul, ex-LSG skipper now part of Delhi’s side. Rahul had quit the team after a poor IPL 2024 season where his team lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by ten wickets. So far the two sides have met each other five times with Lucknow winning three games and Delhi coming out on top twice.

Delhi Capitals prevail in high-scoring clash

It was match number 64 in the IPL 2024 season that was played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium between Delhi and Lucknow. It was the hosts who were put into bat after LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss. Jake Fraser-McGurk was out for a duck but Abhishek Porel’s 58 gave Delhi a fine start.

Shai Hope (38) and Rishabh Pant’s 33 helped Delhi maintain a steady rate with the bat. Tristan Stubbs then gave the finishing touches with his unbeaten 57 off just 25 balls with three boundaries and four sixes. Naveen Ul Haq was the best bowler for Lucknow with figures of 2 for 51 from his four overs.

In reply, Lucknow were reduced to 71 for the loss of five wickets in the eighth over. Ishant Sharma dismissed both the openers Quinton De Kock and KL Rahul early. The veteran seamer then got the wicket of Deepak Hooda for a duck. Axar Patel got into the act and dismissed Marcus Stoinis for five runs. By the time Ayush Badoni was out for six runs, LSG was in dire conditions.

Nicholas Pooran kept the fight going as he top-scored with 61 runs from 27 balls. Just as it seemed that Delhi would earn an easy win, Mohammad Arshad Khan scored 58 off just 33 balls with four boundaries and five sixes. The youngster from Madhya Pradesh though saw his efforts fall short as Delhi won the game by 19 runs.
