Ben Stokes and his England side completed a series whitewash against West Indies with a comfortable ten-wicket win on Sunday. The match yet again ended within three days as Mark Wood bowled a blistering spell to end the West Indian innings just after lunch.

With this loss, the West Indian side has now gone to the bottom of the World Test Championship ratings. With 16 points from 7 matches, the Caribbean side just had 6 matches left with two Tests each against South Africa, Bangladesh, and Pakistan.

England are in the 6th position with 57 points from 13 matches with six wins, six losses and 1 draw. India continues to lead the table with 74 points from 9 games, with Australia second with 90 points from 12 matches. New Zealand are third with 36 points from 6 matches with Sri Lanka in 4th place.

Mark Wood and Ben Stokes deliver killer blow

West Indies started the 3rd day versus England with Mikyle Louis and Alick Athanze. Shoaib Bashir struck first when he got rid of Athanaze for 12. This brought Kavem Hodge to the crease as Hodge and Louis added 72 runs for the 4th wicket in 13 overs.

England skipper Ben Stokes got the wicket of Mikyle Louis for 57 runs from 95 balls with four boundaries and 2 sixes. Post lunch Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood went past the Caribbean batters as the visitors were bowled out for 175. Mark Wood ended with figures of 5/40 from his 14 overs as he had the visitors hopping with his pace.

Needing 82 runs to win, Ben Stokes came out to open with Ben Duckett and went after the West Indian bowling attack. The target was achieved in a mere 7.2 overs as Ben Stokes got to his Test fifty off just 24 balls. This was the fastest-ever Test fifty-scored England batter as Stokes was not out on 57 off 28 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes.

As the game ended, Ben Stokes said, “This is a great win. Every time we walk out on the field we want to win. We really like to focus on our process and do what we think is best, the results will then take care of themselves.”

Kraigg Brathwaite while addressing the series loss said, “We never give up, we always come back and fight. We were good in pieces, and we have two Test matches pretty much in a week, so very excited for these two games coming up against South Africa. I am doing good and looking forward to these 2 Test matches, we have to see how far we have improved in the first Test against South Africa.”
