Former West Indian skipper Clive Lloyd isn’t happy with the reported two-tier system for World Test Championships. It was reported that International Cricket Council is considering making the next few seasons of IPL into two-ties. The first tier will consist of teams like Australia, India, and England.

The second tier will have teams like Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Afghanistan. The purported move is to give more Test match action to teams which don’t get much WTC exposure. According to Mr. Clive Lloyd this could have disastrous effects on West Indian cricket especially in the longest format of the game.

Mr. Lloyd as quoted by Times Now while speaking to Trinidad and Tobago Guardian said “You could imagine they're talking about dismantling the West Indies, that is not the way to go. The way to go is to give West Indies and other teams the same amount of money so they can improve their facilities, get better systems in place so that they can improve their cricket.”

The former West Indian skipper while speaking to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian feared for his country’s Test future. The legendary skipper “We West Indies have a great history, and now you're going to tell us that because of a monetary situation, we should be disbanded,”

Clive Lloyd also said “I think it will be terrible for all those countries who work so hard to get to Test match status and now they'll be playing among themselves in the lower section.” West Indies had a great start to 2024 when they beat Australia during the Brisbane Test as Shamar Joseph picked 7 wickets.

Australia are set to take on South Africa during the finals of the World Test Championships in 2024. Pat Cummins and his side are the defending champions and are still to play two Test matches against Sri Lanka. In the recent series against India, Australia won the series 3-1 to qualify for the finals. South Africa on the other hand beat Pakistan kin the first Test in Centurion by 2 wickets to qualify for the final game.
