Indian cricket lost their first-ever ODI series to Sri Lanka in the most humiliating manner. It was the Sri Lankan spinners yet again who did the damage with the ball as India lost wickets in a cluster to hand the home team an easy win to take the series 2-0.

Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir would be fuming at the way their batters have performed during the series. For the third game in a row, the famed Indian batting line-up failed to cope with the conditions that aided the spinners.

Dunith Wellage came back to haunt the Indian team once more as he was the destroyer in chief. The Sri Lankan left-arm spinner removed the key wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as well as Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel. Wellage got his fifth wicket of the game when he dismissed Kuldeep Yadav to win the match for his side by 110 runs.

Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis were the heroes with the bat for Sri Lanka as the home team posted 248 on the board. After getting out to a first-ball duck in the last game, Pathum Nissanka came back to form with a well-made 45-run knock.

After the openers added 89 runs for the first wicket, Fernando and Kusal Mendis then added 82 runs more for the 2nd wicket. The pair were able to put the screws on the Indian bowling as they mixed caution with aggression.

Riyan Parag struck three big blows as he dismissed Fernando for 96 and then followed it up with the wickets of Charith Asalanka and Dunith Wellage. Kusal Mendis’ 59 then helped give the home team the much-needed impetus to reach 248 on the board.

India began well by racing to 37 runs on the board in quick time before Asitha Fernando got Shubman Gill out for 6. Once Rohit Sharma fell for 35 the Indian batting unit collapsed once more as Dunith Wellage ran through the batting unit.

Washington Sundar tried his best to stage a fightback with a few lusty shots. Maheesh Theekshana though dismissed him for 30 off 25 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes to drill the final nail into India’s batting unit.

There will be tough questions asked from the Indian team management as many fans called out Gautam Gambhir. The decision to drop KL Rahul and bring in Rishabh Pant didn’t yield any results as the young wicketkeeper could only six before getting out.

Here’s how the fans reacted
