Tempers flared during the final ODI between India and Sri Lanka on Wednesday. Virat Kohli was in his element when India were on the field during the Sri Lankan batting. The former Indian skipper was seen pumped up at the fall of each and every wicket the home team lost.

During the chase, Asitha Fernando had given a rather interesting send-off to Shubman Gill. Just after delivering a ball to Virat Kohli the former Indian skipper could be seen giving Fernando a deathly stare as the two exchanged glances.

India were set a target of 249 to win the third and final ODI on Wednesday. Fifties by Avishka Fernando and Kusal Mendis enabled Sri Lanka to post the highest team total during the series. For India it was Riyan Parag who did the damage with the ball with 3/54 from his spell of 9 overs.

Sri Lanka pick six early wickets to dent India’s batting

Needing a good start in pursuit of 249 to win, Rohit Sharma was yet again at his aggressive best. Shubman Gill on the other hand was out charging Asitha Fernando losing his leg stump.

Virat Kohli joined Rohit Sharma as the pair added 16 more runs for the second wicket. Dunith Wellage then got the biggest wicket for Sri Lanka when he had Rohit Sharma caught behind by Kusal Mendis for 35 off 20 balls.

From there the Indian team kept losing wickets at regular intervals as the Sri Lankan spinners ran riot. Rishabh Pant gave Maheesh Theekshana the charge and needlessly threw his wicket away for 6 as Kusal Mendis completed the easiest of stumpings.

Dunith Wellage struck once more as he dismissed Virat Kohli out LBW for 20 runs off 18 balls. Axar Patel became the third wicket of the day for Wellage when the ball turned in sharply to castle him for 2. The fourth wicket of the day for Wellage was that of Shreyas Iyer who misread the line of the ball to be out LBW for 8.

At the time of writing, Wellage had bowled four overs and taken 4 wickets and given away 24 runs. Riyan Parag and Shivam Dube were at the crease with the score reading 95 for 6 in the 15th over with India needing 154 more runs to win.
