The world number 1 white-ball bowler Sophie Ecclestone held the nerves in the super-over thriller to help UP Warriorz Women beat the hosts Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women in the ongoing WPL 2025. Notably, it was the first-ever super-over game in the three-edition-long history of the Women’s Premier League.

After the end of the allotted 40 overs of the game, the clash between RCB-W and UP-W ended in a tie when Richa Ghosh pulled off an amazing run-out on the last ball of the 20th over to dismiss Sophie Ecclestone. Both teams scored 180 runs each in their allotted 20 overs, respectively.

Earlier on the day, the UP Warriorz Women skipper Deepti Sharma won the toss and asked RCB Women to bat first. Batting first the hosts RCB-W posted a big total of 180 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the allotted 20 overs courtesy of the veteran all-rounder Ellyse Perry’s 90 runs off just 56 balls, with nine fours and three sixes.

Besides her, opener Danni-Wyatt Hodge also scored a crucial half-century, hitting 57 runs off 41 balls, with 4 fours and three sixes. Chinelle Henry, Deepti Sharma, and Tahlia McGrath scalped 1 wicket each for UPW-W in the first innings.

Sophie Ecclestone shines to win super-over for UP Warriorz 

While chasing the target, UP Warriorz got some small but crucial knocks; Kiran Navgire and skipper Deepti Sharma scored 24 and 25 runs, respectively. Besides these two, Shweta Sehrawat in the middle order, scored 31 runs off 25 balls, with 4 fours. Later around the end of the innings, Sophie Ecclestone also scored quick and impactful 33 runs off just 19 balls, with one four and four sixes. 

However, UP Warriorz failed to cross the line in the 20 overs as they were bundled out at the same score of 180 runs, resulting in a thrilling tie.

Furthermore, in the super-over, UP Warriorz batted first and scored 8 runs in the over. While defending their super-over target, UP skipper Deepti Sharma introduced Sophie Ecclestone into the attack; she conceded only 4 runs and successfully defended the target helping UP win the super-over by 4 runs.

With this win, Deepti Sharma and Co. have now registered two wins and two defeats in their four matches so far, registering 4 points. They are currently placed in the third spot on the tournament’s points table.
