Worcestershire pacer Tom Taylor delivered an unplayable delivery to Somerset opener George Thomas during a Group A match of the Royal London One-Day Cup 2024 season. A frantic inswinger on the very first ball of the innings saw the Somerset batter’s stumps scattered as he was absolutely stunned by the trajectory of the ball.

Defending a target of 264 in the crucial match, Worcestershire needed a flying start. It didn't take long for the young seamer to produce what was needed as he bowled a blistering delivery early in the innings. The right-handed batter decided to leave the ball as it was too far from the stumps. However, Taylor’s swing magic forced the ball to clip Thomas’s off-stump.

Taylor and his teammates were delighted in joy as they sent the in-form opener packing for a golden duck. "What a delivery that is! A massive in-swinger. That is absolutely boomerang. This is going to go all over social media tonight. That's from outside. That's from the wide line," a commentator said.

Tom Taylor’s all-round brilliance goes in vain

Earlier in the match, Tom Taylor top-scored for Worcestershire with 73 runs from just 65 deliveries. His power-packed innings included seven boundaries and three sixes and helped his side finish with 263 in 47.3 overs. There was no significant contribution from the top and middle-order batters.

However, his brilliance with both and bowl went in wain as Somerset comfortably chased down the target. After the early dismissal of Thomas, Andrew Umeed and Lewis Goldsworthy forged a decent partnership to bring them back into the game. Goldsworthy’s 95 off 108 and keeper-batter James Rew’s 70 off 60 took the game completely away from Worcestershire.

Somerset crossed the finish line in 44.3 overs and bagged crucial points in the tournament. Fateh Singh was the pick of the bowler for Worcestershire as he picked up four wickets at an economy of 5.2.
