New Zealand bowled out England for 143 to take a massive 204-run lead during the third and final Test match in Hamilton. Former skipper Joe Root was the best batter foe England with 32 runs from 42 balls with 6 hits to the fence. Just when Root was starting to look dangerous his innings was ended by pacer William O Rourke.
Joe Root was facing the Kiwi pacer in the final ball of the 18th over. The right-handed batter tried to cut the pacer past the gully region only to give an easy catch to Will Young. It was a huge wicket for the home side who had been outplayed by England in the previous two games.
New Zealand started the day at 315/9 and added 32 runs to their overnight score before being bowled out for 347. Pace bowler Matthew Potts ended with figures of 4/90 from his 28.1 overs. Potts dismissed Mitchell Santner for 76 to end New Zealand’s innings. Santner scored his runs off 117 balls and hit 10 fours and 2 sixes.
Tim Southee goes wicketless as England are bowled out for 143
Pace bowler Matt Henry dismissed English openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett to give the hosts a great start. The right-arm seamer dismissed opener Crawley for the 5th time in 5 innings caught and bowled for 21. Ben Duckett scored 11 runs off 13 balls before he was out LBW to Henry.
Jacob Bethell was the next man out when he was caught by Glenn Phillips off O Rourke for 12. In the very next ball the Kiwi seamer went past the defenses of Harry Brook who was out for a golden duck. After the fall of Joe Root, skipper Ben Stokes and wicketkeeper Ollie Pope added 52 runs for the 6th wicket.
That stand was broken when Santner dismissed Pope for 24 and followed it up with the huge scalp of Stoked for 27. The innings ended with Santner dismissing Brydon Carse for 1 while Matth Henry picked two more wickets to end with figures of 4/48 from his 13.4 overs. Tim Southee playing his final Test match was left wicketless as he bowled 11 overs and gave away 46 runs.
