Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) faced each other in a key clash in the IPL 2025 season at the Wankhede Stadium. Faf du Plessis won the toss and chose to bowl first to make use of the better chasing conditions later in the day. Axar Patel missed the game due to illness, which was a huge blow for the visiting side. Will Jacks, who is set to depart for international duty soon, played a crisp flick shot to stun Mustafizur Rahman.
The incident in question took place on the fifth ball of Rahman’s second over of the game. The Bangladeshi left-arm spinner strayed onto Jacks’ pads, who didn’t need a second invite to play a flick shot over the backward square leg region for six runs. Just the previous ball, Jacks had tried to play a similar flick shot that took the leading edge of his bat and went for four runs.
Home team Mumbai Indians just made one change to their side as Corbin Bosch made way for Mitchell Santner. With the wicket offering a decent amount of turn, the pairing of Karn Sharma as an impact player and Mitchell Santner will be a test for DC batters. KL Rahul, who scored a century in the last game, started on the bench and is set to be the impact player for Delhi.
Mumbai Indians lose three key wickets
Former MI skipper Rohit Sharma played a terrific uppish drive to get things going as seven runs came off the first over. Dushmanta Chameera was given the task of bowling the second of the game and the Sri Lankan was smashed for 15 runs. Ryan Rickelton hit two successive sixes to signal his early intent.
Mustafizur Rahman was brought into the attack early and the pacer lured Rohit into playing a false shot. The batter obliged as Abhishek Porel took a sharp catch to dismiss Rohit for five runs. Will Jacks, who seemed to be in form, went for a big shot off Mukesh Kumar and Vipraj Nigam took a good running catch.
Kuldeep Yadav got his 100th wicket in the IPL when Ryan Rickelton was caught by debutant Madhav Tiwari at the square leg region. Rickelton was out after scoring 25 off just 18 balls and Faf du Plessis came up with an animated celebration. At the end of nine overs, MI were placed at 73 for 3 with Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav batting.
