The ‘concussion substitute’ controversy ignited in the fourth T20I between India and England seemed to follow the things in the last and fifth T20I of the five-match series. Skipper Jos Buttler took a dig at Team India at the time of the toss for the last fixture of the T20I series with an indirect mention of the ‘substitute’ controversy.

Notably, it all started when India brought in pacer Harshit Rana as a concussion substitute for Shivam Dube who got hit in the head while batting in the first innings. The final decision was made by match referee Javagal Srinath after India proposed names to him. Later, this decision happened to divide the cricketing fraternity and the former cricketers into two halves.

A lot of former cricketers felt that it was not a ‘like-to-like’ replacement while a few felt that it was not India at the line of fault as the final decision was made by the match referee.

We have four impact subs in our team – Jos Buttler

Referring to the same, English skipper Jos Buttler ironically mentioned the instance while speaking at the time of toss in the fifth and last and fifth T20I.

“We played some good cricket in patches. We should have executed it better though. Need to grab the special moments in the game. There's a good vibe in the team; it's a good venue and it's a great crowd. It's a good wicket; Mark Wood comes back in. Both teams are high-octane. We have four impact subs in our team,” said Buttler to the official broadcaster at the time of the toss.

Speaking of the action of the series so far, the hosts India are currently leading the five-match T20I series by an unassailable margin of 3-1 after a 15-run win in the fourth T20I. They will be eyeing winning the last T20I to win the series with a comprehensive margin of 4-1.

On the other hand, England will look ahead to end the T20I series on a winning end and take the margin of 2-3 after already losing the series with a 1-3 margin.
