Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has hit out at batter Harry Brook for his inability to finish off the game in Pune on Friday. The visitors won the match by 15 runs to lose the series as India took an unassailable lead in the series. Brook was out after scoring 51 runs from 26 balls with five boundaries and two sixes.

Kevin Pietersen, while speaking at the end of the game on Star Sports, said, “I have issues with his finishing skills. Instead of his fifty, we are taking about his dismissal. He has all the time in the world to win this game for England.”

The former England skipper also said, “We talk about Husseys because of their abilities to close out the games in their teams’ favour. You will only become a big player if you win matches for your country.”

Parthiv Patel seemed to agree with Pietersen’s views, as the former India star said, “It was a lack of game awareness by Harry Brook. Varun had just six balls left and Brook could have easily negotiated those but his wicket brought another wicket.”

‘India were lucky thrice in the match' - Parthiv Patel

Saqib Mahmood gave a huge jolt to the hosts when the 27-year-old bowled a triple wicket maiden over. The right-arm seamer first dismissed Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma in successive balls before getting the scalps of skipper Suryakumar Yadav for a duck.

Speaking at the end of the game on Star Sports, Parthiv Patel said, “India were lucky thrice in the match. They were 12/3 at one stage but Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya took the total to 181.”

India’s former stumper also said, “The two added 60 runs in 6 overs but Duckett’s wicket gave India a chance to put England under pressure." England openers came up with a great star as they were scoring at above ten runs per over in pursuit of 182 runs to win. Ravi Bishnoi’s wicket of Ben Duckett for 39 changed the course of the game.

Parthiv Patel ended by saying, “India got the lucky breakthrough in the form of Brook, who was batting brilliantly before that stroke. He could have easily won the game. His departure brought another scalp in the same over of Varun Chakravarthy as Brydon Carse departed without troubling the scorers.”
