Indian cricket team are staging a tremendous fightback on day 3 of the MCG Test against Australia. Young Washington Sundar who was picked for the game ahead of Shubman Gill has been holding his own with the bat against a relentless Aussie bowling unit. The 25-year-old nearly lost his wicket most bizarrely to Mitchell Starc.

The incident happened when Starc bowled a delivery down the leg side as Sundar tried to play the ball. Indian batter ended up getting an edge that carried to the slips only for Steve Smith to drop the catch. Each and every Australian fielder was left in complete shock. 

It was a huge let-off for India as Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy are the last recognized batting pair. The young duo were able to take India past the follow-on mark with Reddy going on to score his maiden Test fifty. There have been questions about the duo’s selection ahead of the MCG Test.

Washington Sundar reveals team morale ahead of 3rd Day

Young Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar sounded positive ahead of the third day’s play on Saturday. The youngster addressed the media and spoke on a variety of topics including his own preparation for the Australian tour. 

Sundar said “Preparation is always there, no matter if I am playing the game or when I don't know whether I will play. Preparation is there for us to do every day. It's like bread and butter for us. I have been having a lot of conversations about Ash, especially regarding the conditions in Australia. It gave me a lot of insights. He has come here multiple times. This was his 5th tour or something with the red ball”

The youngster also added “We were in a great position to get big runs but we will still come back and continue to fight tomorrow morning. The energy is very good in the dressing room, we are all positive. There is a long time in the game as well, so there are still three days, a lot of overs to play, so it will just be about us trying to fight hard and get things done for the team."
