Former India skipper Virat Kohli seemed to have found his form with the bat in the most critical juncture of the Champions Trophy 2025. The 36-year-old played vintage shots against Pakistan to become the latest batter to score 14,000 runs in ODI cricket. During the course of the game, there was a funny incident that occurred involving Kohli.

Kohli took a quick single and scampered to the non-striker's end. Just then the throw came to the bowler’s end. Babar Azam was late to react but Kohli for some reason touched the ball and prevented the ball from going for overthrow runs. The move stumped even some of the Pakistani players.

After the incident had occurred, Kohli put up his hands to apologise. It was a bizarre passage of play in a game that the Men in Blue are clearly dominating. A win for Rohit Sharma’s side would mean that Pakistan will be knocked out of the tournament. Mohamad Rizwan won the toss and chose to bat and saw his team get bowled out for 241.

Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli put India on the path to huge win

Disciplined efforts with the ball by Indian bowlers meant that Pakistan could only manage to score 241 runs. Rohit Sharma gave his team yet another blazing star with his 15-ball 20 runs. Indian skipper hit three boundaries and a six before a yorker from Shaheen Afridi ended his stay at the wicket.

The first wicket stand between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill had yielded 31 runs in just five overs. Virat Kohli then joined Gill as the pair continued to step on the gas and scored runs at a quick pace. 69 runs were added for the second wicket as the stand was raised in just 45 balls.

Abrar Ahmed then got Pakistan their second wicket when he turned a ball past Shubman Gill’s bat. India’s vice-captain was out after scoring 46 runs from 52 balls with seven boundaries. Kohli with a crisp boundary off Haris Rauf went past the 14,000 run mark in ODI cricket. The former Indian skipper also hit a four off Naseem Shah to reach his half-century.
