Earlier in the game, Harpreet Brar and Virat Kohli were involved in an argument that was caught on the stump mic. This win was also RCB’s fifth successive win away from home and slotted them back into the third spot in the points ahead of PBKS. Currently RCB has 10 points from eight games going into the second half of the season.
PBKS were put into bat by Rajat Patidar and the home team ended up with 157 on the board. Prabhsimran Singh was the leading run getter for PBKS with 33 runs from 17 balls with five boundaries and a six. Shashank Singh (31) and Marco Jansen (25) led PBKS to a decent total on the board after a mid-innings collapse.
Virat Kohli named man of the match for his unbeaten 73
Needing 158 runs to win, Phil Salt was dismissed early by Arshdeep Singh when the English batter was caught by Inglis for one run. Devdutt Padikkal and Kohli then batter PBKS out of the contest with a stand of 103 runs for the second wicket in 69 balls. Padikkal played the aggressor as the left-handed batter hit five glorious boundaries and four huge sixes before he was out to Harpreet Brar.
Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli was named man of the match for his 73 not out which came off 54 balls with seven fours and a six. This was also Kohli’s 67th IPL fifty and 101st half-century in his T20 career. PBKS now have a six day break before they take on Kolkata away from home. RCB will face Rajasthan Royals in the next home game as they seek to win their first match at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Speaking to the host broadcasters at the end of the game, RCB skipper Patidar said “Credit goes to the bowlers. Dev and Kohli, the way they executed their plans. The bowlers chipped in at different stages, the way they executed their plans, it was beautiful. Had to bowl tight lines as the wicket was a little slow. That was the message to all the bowlers. We had a chat last night about our fielding. Everyone put in their efforts and that was beautiful”
