Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a slow start to the Indian Premier League (IPL) game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday. At the end of six over, CSK were placed at 31 for the loss of two wickets which is the second lowest total in the powerplay in this season. Chennai could have lost three wickets before the powerplay was finished if it hadn’t been for Sunil Narine dropping an easy catch of Vijay Shankar.

The incident in question happened in the third ball of the fifth over that was bowled by Harshit Rana. The veteran all-rounder tried to play the ball down to the leg side and got a thick leading edge off his bat. The ball went straight to Sunil Narine who was standing in mid-off. The former West Indian star put in a lethargic effort that saw the catch being dropped.

MS Dhoni was back as the captain of Chennai Super Kings but it was KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane who won the toss. The veteran batter had no hesitation in opting to bowl first after winning the toss. CSK made two changes with Ruturaj Gaikwad making way for Rahul Tripathi and Anshul Kamboj replacing Mukesh Choudhary. KKR made one change as former CSK star Moeen Ali came in for Aussie pacer Spencer Johnson.

Chennai Super Kings lose two early wickets

The first two overs of the game saw 10 runs being scored as Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway looked to get their eye in. In the third over bowled by Vaibhav Arora six runs were being scored as Conway hit the second boundary of the game. Moeen Ali then struck in the first ball of the fourth over to give CSK a huge blow.

Devon Conway tried to play the reverse sweep and was hit on the pads and the umpire gave the decision in favor of the bowler. CSK batter decided to use the review but umpire’s call meant that the batter had to make his way back to the hut. Conway was out after scoring 12 runs from 11 balls with two hits to the fence.

At the end of the first powerplay, CSK were 56 for two after nine overs with Tripathi and Shankar batting together. Rachin Ravindra became the second wicket to fall when he tried to loft Harshit Rana over the top and managed to give Rahane a simple catch. Ravindra was out after scoring four runs which came off nine balls.
