Fielding is one of the most important aspects of cricket. Sometimes an extra single caused by a misfielding can cost a team the game. If so, what about a dropped catch? Giving a lifeline to a batter is similar to attempting suicide.

Remember Kapil Dev's stunning catch in the 1983 ODI World Cup final? That catch to dismiss Viv Richards swung the match in India's favour and won the maiden World Cup. India would not have won the maiden T20 World Cup had Sreesanth not held his nerve to take the catch of Misbah-ul-Haq in the nervy last over.

We don't need to turn back the pages of the history book to understand the value of a catch. Suryakumar Yadav took one of the greatest catches in the 2024 World T20 final against South Africa. His breathtaking catch to dismiss David Miller in the final over snatched the game from the Proteas and ended India's 11-year drought for an ICC trophy.

While all that we have discussed is about match or tournament-winning catches, there are many instances where players have dropped easy catches during important matches. Some even will make a comedy of errors before dropping a catch.

A video of a hilarious fielding effort during a village league match between Sanderstead Cricket Club vs Merton Boars has gone viral on social media. The video shows Sanderstead's Stuey Elleray juggling the ball seven times before eventually dropping the catch.

Commentators can be heard joking about the incident. Even Elleray was seen laughing his fumble at the end of the video. His poor effort gave Merton Boars a helping hand to achieve a big score.

Meanwhile, fans took to social media to label Elleray’s effort as the “greatest dropped catch of all time”.  “Tribute to Pakistan fielding,” another user commented.
