On Tuesday, Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami celebrated his 34th birthday. The veteran pacer is getting ready to make his comeback to the Indian side. Mohammed Shami hasn’t played for the national side since the ODI World Cup 230 final against Australia.

It was during the 2023 ODI World Cup that Mohammed Shami put in one of his best performances. The right-arm pacer began with a five-wicket haul against New Zealand in Dharamshala. In the very next game against England, Shami bowled well to Ben Stokes.

The right-arm pacer beat the English Test skipper for pace as Stokes was all at sea. Ben Stokes tried to be aggressive against the Indian pacer but couldn’t score any runs. It was Mohammed Shami who prevailed in the end and dismissed Ben Stokes. This enabled India to win the match by a huge margin.

Mohammed Shami reveals interesting story about ODI World Cup 2023

Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was named the ODI bowler of the year during the CEAT Awards held a few weeks ago. The award was given for Shami’s amazing performances with the ball in 2023.

During the award show, Shami revealed his feelings about missing out on the first few games of the tournament. Shardul Thakur had played the first few matches but lack of form meant Shami was drafted into the team for the game against New Zealand.

“I'm habitual to it, I think. In 2015, 2019, and 2023, I had the same start. When I was given a chance, the performances, thanks to god, they never thought of dropping me again” said Mohammed Shami.

The veteran Indian pacer also said, “Only when you're ready can you prove yourself. Otherwise, I can only run to the field to give water! It's better to seize the opportunity when you get it.”

Mohammed Shami is set to make his return to the Indian domestic cricket. The right-arm pacer may not make it to the team for the series against Bangladesh. It is expected that Mohammed Shami will feature in the series against New Zealand.
