India and England are set to clash against each other in the 2nd semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. The winner of the contest will face South Africa in the final game which will be played in Barbados on June 29. The Men in Blue are unbeaten in the tournament so far while the Three Lions have faced two defeats during the group and Super 8 stage.
However, for those who don’t know both India and England clashed in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-final as well where the Rohit Sharma-led side were humiliated by the Jos Buttler-led side as England claimed a 10-wicket win over India as they chased the target of 169 runs in just 16 overs without losing even a single a wicket.
Talking about the match, England won the toss and elected to field first. The Men in Blue managed to get a total of 168 runs with the help of two half-centurions Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. Kohli scored 50 off 40 balls while Pandya was pretty quick as he scored 63 runs from just 33 deliveries which included 4 fours and 5 sixes.
Chasing the target, England openers Alex Hales and Buttler started the innings quite confidently and continued the momentum till the end. The Indian bowlers had no answers to Buttler and Hales’ gameplay. Buttler scored 80 off 49 balls which included 9 fours and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Hales smashed 86 off just 47 deliveries with the help of 4 fours and 7 sixes.
The Indian team will look to revenge that embarrassing loss in Guyana and get the qualification ticket for the final game. It would also be interesting to see if the Indian team make any changes in their playing 11 or not for the must-win game.
