India's young team made history on September 24, 2007, when they lifted the ICC T20 World Cup under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The moment was extra special because the Men in Blue defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the finals. While the team was relatively new and inexperienced, nobody had ever imagined them lifting the trophy. But Dhoni's mastermind and team's full efforts helped to convert the dream into reality.

That tournament saw the rise of players like Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and many more. Dhoni went on to become the most successful captain of India, lifting three ICC trophies. Rohit Sharma, the current captain of the Indian team, is on the path to winning some more ICC trophies after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. The T20 World Cup 2007 saw many interesting and thrilling moments, but India beating Pakistan in the finals is etched in the memories of every Indian fan.

After several challenging games, India finally reached the finals to play against Pakistan. India decided to bat first on winning the toss, but things took a different turn when they lost some early wickets, putting pressure on the middle-order batters. India were 40-2 when Gautam Gambhir (75 off 54 balls) and Rohit Sharma (30 off just 16 balls) took the responsibility on their shoulders.

Both batters formed a brilliant partnership, helping India post 157 for 5. For Pakistan, Umar Gul was the star of the match, claiming three wickets for 28 runs. Pakistan's run chase didn't start on a great note as they, too, lost early wickets and were 53 for 3 after Imran Nazir was run out. He smashed 33 off 14 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes.

The wickets kept falling at regular intervals, but Mishabh-ul-Haq kept Pakistan's hopes alive. He took the game as deep as he could, and the Men in Green required just 13 runs off the last over. The drama happened in the last over when Dhoni handed the ball to Joginder Sharma, an inexperienced bowler. His first ball went for wide, which showed his nervousness, and the third ball went for a six after a dot. From there, Pakistan needed just six runs off four balls.

On seeing just six runs on the board, Mishabh felt like he could seal the game with just one shot, but that didn't happen, and the rest was history. He attempted a cheeky scoop shot over a short fine leg, but the shot went high up in the air and went straight to S. Sreesant who was waiting at the short fine leg for the catch. India clinched victory by just five runs, which still haunts Pakistan until today.
