Indian cricket commentators Akash Chopra, Robin Uthappa, and Suresh Raina were left completely stunned on Sunday. The reason behind this was the spectacular catch taken by Glenn Phillips to dismiss Virat Kohli for 11 runs in the Champions Trophy 2025. The Kiwi star dove to his right and plucked out a one-handed beauty to dismiss the former Indian skipper.
Aakash Chopra could only exclaim in disbelief as Phillips completed a catch and said, “What a stunner! Glenn Phillips,” and went on to say in Hindi, “Kaun kehta hai Kiwis can't fly. Aaj humne Dubai international stadium main udte dekha hai”. The former India opener also added, “Iss shot pe chaar likha tha lekin is catch ne is pari ko samapth kia aur bahut dilo ko tod diya hai.”

At the start of the video, Raina had his mouth open and gave a shocked look to both his fellow commentators. Raina, who was known to be a great fielder in his time, said, “Kiwis can fly, yeh toh bahut bada fielder hai Phillips. Bahut bada wicket New Zealand ko mila." Even the fans in the stadium were shocked at the athleticism shown by the 28-year-old.
Glenn Phillips pouches catch of the tournament?
Virat Kohli who was playing his 300th ODI match for India was left in complete disbelief after his catch was taken. The 36-year-old who had scored a century in the last match against Pakistan was looking good with two sweetly timed fours to reach 11 runs. The wicket of Kohli put more pressure on the team having lost Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma.
Aakash Chopra who was on commentary duties also said “ Kamal ka catch matlab! Waise Virat Kohli ka toh hum nahi dekhna chahte loop pe lagakar but yeh loop pe lagane wali catch of the tournament hai. Aur interestingly yeh inka doosra (catch) hai pehli wali inhone left pe dive marke catch pakda tha woh Pakistan main tha”
Navjot Singh Sidhu who joined the commentary panel later praised Phillips’ reaction time to take catch. Having already grabbed Rizwan’s catch earlier in the tournament in a similarly stunning fashion, Phillips has made himself the top contender to win the catch of the tournament award.
