Former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s 300th ODI match's batting innings ended in despair in the final Group A match of the Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday. Kohli was batting on 11 when he was facing Matt Henry in the fourth ball of the seventh over. The 36-year-old got a wide delivery outside the off-stump, which he slashed at.

The ball was travelling at the speed of knots and looked certain to head to the boundary for a four. Glenn Phillips dove to his right and pulled off a one-handed catch that evoked a shocked reaction from Kohli. Anushka Sharma, who had come to watch the game, could only look in disbelief as Kohli was out after scoring 11 runs from 14 balls.

Glenn Phillips had earlier in the tournament taken an amazing catch to get rid of Mohammad Rizwan. The Kiwi star has been known to take outstanding catches and the effort on Sunday is right on top of the list as far as the best catches of the tournament are concerned. New Zealand have held onto 18 catches and dropped just one chance in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 tournament.

Team India loses three early wickets in the first powerplay

Mitchell Santner won the toss and chose to bowl first in the final league phase match on Sunday. Daryl Mitchell came in for Devon Conway while Harshit Rana made way for Varun Chakravarthy in the playing XI for India. Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami were included in the team after reports emerged that the duo were facing fitness issues.

At the end of 10 overs, India were placed at 37/3, having lost their top three batters. Rohit Sharma got things underway with a boundary off the last ball to end the first over in style, as six runs were scored from it. The Indian skipper then came down the track to hit Matt Henry for a huge six to signal his intentions.

Shubman Gill was out LBW for two runs to Matt Henry to give the Kiwis their first wicket of the game. Rohit Sharma was the second batter out as he mistimed a pull shot off Kyle Jamieson to be dismissed for 15 runs. After the fall of Kohli, it was Axar Patel who joined Shreyas Iyer to help rebuild the innings.
