Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) posted a massive total of 238 on the board in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 game versus Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday. KKR began the chase in right earnest as they scored 16 runs in the first over of the chase. Akash Deep began the over with five wides as the bowler struggled to exert his control with the ball.

Advertisment

Sunil Narine got the first runs off the bat when Akash Deep bowled a length ball on the leg stump. The veteran West Indian cleared his leg and hit a smashing six to show his intent during the mammoth run-chase. Narine, who has been woefully out of form with the bat, helped KKR reach 60 for the loss of one wicket after four overs.

Lucknow was put into bat by Ajinkya Rahane after the KKR skipper won the ttoss.  Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh added 99 runs for the opening wicket before Harshit Rana got the wicket of Markram for 47. Mitchell Marsh scored 81 runs off 48 balls before he was dismissed by Andre Russell.

The best batter for LSG was Nicholas Pooran, who was not out on 87 off just 36 balls. The left-handed batter hit seven boundaries and eight huge sixes in his knock and took his seasons tally to 288 runs. Rana was the best bowler for KKR with figures of 2/51 from his four overs.

KKR get off to a flier in a huge chase

The second over for LSG was bowled by Shardul Thakur, who is playing his 100th game in the IPL. Thakur was hit for 15-runs from his opening over as De Kock began the over with a huge six. The final two balls of the second over saw Narine hit fours to give KKR a blazing start to their innings.

De Kock then hit Akash Deep for his second six of the innings, but the bowler had the last laugh. De Kock was hit on his back leg, the umpire didn’t give it out and Rishabh Pant sent the decision upstairs. It was seen that the ball was hitting the pads and batter was sent back on his way to the dugout for 15 runs from just nine balls.

Australian batter Mitchell Marsh spoke to the broadcasters at the mid-innings break. Marsh was asked to give his take on the huge total to which he said “To be honest I thought 180-190 was par, but the ball came on to the bat better once it got a bit older. Obviously, blessed to have Pooran in our side.  It's a small ground with a fast outfield. I have been staying good with my routine and thinking. I try to watch the ball and have fun.
