Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram put Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers to the sword in the Indian Premier League (IPL) game on Tuesday. The stand for the opening wicket was worth 99 that came in just 10.2 overs. Harshit Rana then gave the home fans something to cheer about when he got the wicket of Markram for 47 runs.

Rana bowled a slower ball, which Markram tried to hit across the line and was bowled. It was a much-needed wicket for KKR as the Lucknow batters were running away with the game. Markram was out after scoring 47 off just 28 balls with four boundaries and two sixes. The South African batter had scored a fifty in the last game versus Mumbai Indians and was well on course to score his second successive fifty.

Ajinkya Rahane’s decision to bowl first after winning the toss seemed to have backfired as the LSG batters began to attack the KKR bowlers. The first five overs of the innings produced 43 runs for no loss as Marsh and Markram were particularly severe on Spencer Johnson. The Aussie seamer was hit for 30 runs from his first two overs.

Harshit Rana was brought into bowl the final over before the powerplay and the right-arm seamer was hit for 16 runs. Aiden Markram welcome Rana to the bowling crease with a huge six. Mitchell Marsh then slammed the pacer for the second six of the over as the powerplay ended with the visitors on 59 for no loss.

The introduction of Sunil Narine didn’t change the attacking mood with the bat for Marsh and Markram. Narine was hit for a huge six by Marsh and the Aussie batter followed it up with yet another four to take 13 runs from the over.
Spencer Johnson was smashed for 16 runs from his third over as Marsh and Pooran hit him for three boundaries.

The veteran Australian batter reached his fourth fifty of the season in just five innings off just 36 balls to give LSG a great start to the game. Marsh was finally out for 81 runs when he was caught by Rinku Singh off Andre Russell in the second ball of the 15th over. Marsh got his runs off 48 balls with six boundaries and five sixes.
