Gujarat Titans (GT) batters were seen putting up a great fight in their pursuit of the 244-run target set by Punjab Kings. The fourth game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season saw yet another run-scoring contest in Ahmedabad. The hosts decided to send West Indian batter Sherfane Rutherford as the impact player for pacer Prasidh Krishna. The move seemed to pay off as the left-handed batter began to attack the bowlers right from the start.

Rutherford got a short ball from Marcus Stoinis and the batter responded by hitting the bowler deep into the stands. The enormous six hit by Rutherford went 97 meters and left Titans skipper Shubman Gill in complete shock. The West Indian star hit a four next ball and finished the over with yet another six to score 17 runs off the over.

Earlier, it was the Punjab Kings who batted first after Shubman Gill won the toss and sent the opposition in. Shreyas Iyer led the batting charts with 97, not out off just 42 balls, which was laced with nine huge sixes and five boundaries. Shashank Singh hit 44 not out from 16 balls to help his side reach 243 on the board.

Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan came out to open the batting for GT, with Jos Buttler batting at number three. The openers added 61 runs in just 5.5 overs, as Gill in particular went after the bowling and hit a few spectacular shots, including three huge sixes and two fours.

Gill was out after scoring 33 runs from just 14 balls before he was caught by Priyansh Arya off Glenn Maxwell’s bowling. Sai Sudharsan, who had started slowly, then went after the bowling and began to hit boundaries at will. The left-handed batter was out after scoring 74 runs from just 41 balls with five boundaries and six huge hits.

The second wicket stand between Sudharsan and Buttler yielded 84 runs from just 40 balls. Just when Sudharsan was looking good for a century, the batter was caught in the deep by Shashank Singh off Arshdeep Singh. The decision to send Buttler at number three paid off as the former England skipper started to attack the bowlers right from the start.
