Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill has been in the news recently, having emerged as the Test captaincy frontrunner. The 25-year-old has linked up with his GT teammates ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 resumption after the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan. In a short video that is doing the rounds on social media, one fan can be seen asking Gill to give her a selfie recently.

The right-handed batter was approached by a fan while coming out of the airport. With her phone in hand, the fan could be heard saying “Sir, ek selfie”. The cricketer, though, ignored the fan and just kept walking away with security by his side. The video ended with the fan slowly walking away with a heartbroken look on her face.

With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s retirement ahead of the England series, Indian cricket is set to witness massive changes. Rohit had led the Test side for the last two years and called time on his red-ball career last week. Gill has emerged as the top candidate for the captain’s role ahead of Jasprit Bumrah.

Rishabh Pant emerges as strong Test captain candidate

Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is also in the race to become the next Test captain ahead of the England tour. Sky Sports has reported that Pant’s previous record in the Test format has made him a direct rival for the Test captaincy. Reports carried by Sky Sports stated, “India are now expected to pick either Gill or Pant as their next Test captain, with selectors due to meet next week to discuss the position”

Jasprit Bumrah, who had led India in a few Tests in Australia, has apparently opted out of the race. Sky Sports suggested that Bumrah isn’t ready to play all five Test matches due to previous fitness concerns. “It is understood Bumrah, who was favourite to take over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, does not want to commit to playing all five Tests in a series due to workload”

On Sunday, it was reported by Cricbuzz that the Selectors are set to meet on Tuesday to pick the India A side for the England tour. Karun Nair is set to be picked for the tour, with Abhimanyu Eeswaran set to lead the side. Shardul Thakur, who performed well for Mumbai in the domestic format, is set to earn his recall to the national side.
