Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finally had something to cheer about towards the end of the IPL 2025 season. Rishabh Pant and his men beat table toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) by 33 runs in their penultimate game of the season. Mitchell Marsh’s century and Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten fifty helped LSG post 235 on the board. In reply, Shubman Gill’s side managed to score just 202 runs to lose the game.
At the end of the game, as the two sides were exchanging pleasantries, the cameras spotted Gill’s rather unusual behaviour towards the opposition. Rishabh Pant was saying something to Gill, who just shook his counterpart’s hands. Gill didn’t respond to what Pant was saying, which left many fans with mixed reactions. While some took Gill’s side and called it disappointment over the loss, many weren’t happy with the players' behavior.
This isn’t the first time Gill’s behaviour has been questioned this season. In the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the 25-year-old had two run-ins with the umpire. Off the field too, Gill was seen ignoring a fan asking the player for a selfie. The right-handed batter has been in terrific form with the bat and also has been earning rave reviews for his captaincy. Gill’s leadership skills have made him one of the top candidates for India’s Test captaincy ahead of the England tour.
Shubman Gill rues bad bowling performance after loss to LSG
Gujarat Titans for the second time this season, lost to Lucknow Super Giants. It was Gill who won the toss and chose to bowl first. Speaking at the end of the game, Gill said, “We gave 15-20 runs extra. Wanted to stop them around 210. There's a huge difference between 210 and 230. We bowled well in the powerplay; didn't get any wickets but after the powerplay, in the 14 overs, they scored around 180 runs, which was a lot.”
LSG skipper Rishabh Pant expressed his happiness after the win and said, “Definitely happy. We have shown as a team that we can play good cricket. There was a time in the tournament when we had the chance to qualify. But that's part and parcel of the game. We need to learn and get better.”
With this loss, the Titans now have 18 points from 13 games and will play Chennai Super Kings in their final home game of the league phase. Lucknow end their IPL 2025 campaign with a home game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. One more win will give LSG the much-needed morale boost to end their season on a high.
