IPL 2025: Mitchell Marsh and William O Rourke help LSG claim consolation win over GT by 33 runs

Lucknow Super Giants beat Gujarat Titans by 33 runs thanks to century by Australian cricketer Mitchell Marsh and three wickets from William O Rourke.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) came up with a morale boosting win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2025 game in Ahmedabad. Mitchell Marsh’ century and three wickets by William O Rourke’s three wickets broke the back of Titans batting order. In the end, Shubman Gill’s side lost the match by 33 runs. Titans will take on Chennai Super Kings in their final encounter, while LSG will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh opened the batting and the pair added 91 for the opening wicket inside 10 overs. Markram scored 36 runs and fell to Sai Kishore to give the home side their first wicket of the day. Marsh and Pooran then added 124 for the second wicket in 51 balls as the two batters destroyed GT’s bowling attack. 

Mitchell Marsh was out for 117 while Pooran was not out on 58. For the home side the best bowler was Sai Kishore who picked 1/34 from his three overs while Arshad Khan picked 1/36 from his three overs. Rishabh Pant who was under huge pressure to score runs was not out on 16 off six balls. 

Shahrukh Khan’s effort with the bat goes in vain  

Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill added 46 runs for the opening wicket under five overs. William O Rourke got the first wicket that of Sai Sudharsan for 21 runs. Shubman Gill was out after scoring 35 as he fell to Avesh Khan caught by Abdul Samad. Jos Buttler was out after scoring 33 off 18 balls before the English batter was bowled by Akash Singh. 

This brought Sherfane Rutherford and Shahrukh Khan to the crease and the pair added 86 runs for the fourth wicket in 40 balls. O Rourke got the key wicket of Rutherford caught by Ravi Bishnoi for 38. Shahrukh Khan scored 57 off just 28 balls with five boundaries and three sixes. 

The 29-year-old did his best to win the game for his side but fell to Avesh Khan as Bishnoi took his second catch. Ayush Badoni ended the game with two wickets in the final over of the innings. O Rourke ended his spell with three wickets for 27 from four overs.
