Indian Cricketers are getting ready for the Duleep Trophy tournament which is set to begin on 5th September. Shubman Gill took to the nets as he was seen taking to the nets with the bat in hand. The 24-year-old has been named as the skipper of the India A side which will take on India B in the first match of the tournament.
Shubman Gill hasn’t been in the greatest of forms in recent times. The 24-year-old failed to perform with the bat in the recent ODI series against Sri Lanka. His form in the series against Bangladesh and New Zealand will be important in preparation for the huge Australian series.
Some of the big name Indian stars will take part in the Duleep Trophy 2024 tournament. Apart from Shubman Gill, the likes of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mohammed Siraj are expected to feature.
Huge chance for Shubman Gill to find his form
After a brilliant 2023, Shubman Gill hasn’t had a great 2024 season. The right-handed batter will be a key player for India with 10 Test matches scheduled to be played in the next few months.
Shubman Gill was a young batter who was making his debut during the last tour of Australia. The 91 run knock scored by Shubman Gill during the Gabba Test in 91 helped India win the match on the final day and also secure the series win.
Meanwhile, former Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was recently speaking to CRICBUZZ. The former Indian star was asked to name his choice as the likely opening pair for the Champions Trophy 2025 edition.
Dinesh Karthik said “Why? Rohit and Shubman are a very good combination. Yes, Jaiswal has a great opportunity to be the backup opener and get his opportunity soon if Shubman doesn't go as well as expected. And India has a very solid middle order as well”
The next ODI series for Indian is at home versus England after their tour of Australia. Speaking about this, Karthik said "In the lead-up to the Champions Trophy, they are just going to be playing three more games. And I am pretty confident it's going to be Rohit and Shubman opening for the Champions Trophy,"
