Punjab Kings (PBKS) entered the finals of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after beating Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier on Sunday night. Skipper Shreyas Iyer had played a captain’s knock by scoring 87 not out from 41 balls to guide his side to a five-wicket win with an over to spare. One of the best shots played by Iyer was off MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who bowled a toe-crushing yorker.

The incident in question happened in the second ball of the 18th over as Bumrah delivered a yorker. Iyer moved away and played the ball late towards the third-man boundary. It was a special shot against a pacer who is known for his mastery in the final few overs of the innings.

Incidentally, Iyer had also played a similar shot against the same bowler when he made his IPL debut a decade ago. Back then, Iyer was playing for Delhi Capitals, and the game against MI saw Bumrah’s yorker produce the same result. The 30-year-old ended his innings on 87 not out from 41 balls with five boundaries and eight sixes.

Hardik Pandya credits Shreyas Iyer for his match-winning knock

MI skipper Hardik Pandya was in full praise for his PBKS counterpart for his match-winning knock. Speaking at the end of the game, Pandya said, “he way Shreyas batted, took his chances, and some of the shots he played were really outstanding. I think they definitely batted really well.”

When speaking about MI’s bowling, the 31-year-old said, “I think it was par, but it needed some great execution as a bowling unit, which I think in these big games, it really matters. And as I mentioned, they were really calm, put us under pressure, and I think we were not able to execute the way we wanted. I will not put it on the wicket.”

Nehal Wadhera played a key innings of 48 off 29 balls against his former side. The left-handed batter who had played for MI for a few seasons said, “This will be close to my heart. I have been with MI for two years, and I have played them before, so I know what they could try, and I changed a few things in my batting accordingly.”
