Sri Lanka batted first and managed to post a challenging score of 240 runs on the board. The total was possible due to Kamindu Mendis and Dunith Wellage who forged a key stand to frustrate the Indians once more. Shreyas Iyer showed tremendous skill as he ran out Kamindu Mendis with a brilliant throw.

The incident happened in the fifth ball of the final over of the innings. Kamindu Mendis played the ball to the mid-wicket region and took a single. The batter went for a second run and that’s when Shreyas Iyer came running in.

Shreyas Iyer picked the ball and in swift motion threw the ball at the stumps. The batter was caught well short of the crease as Kamindu Mendis was out for a well played 40. His partnership with Dunith Wellage was the main reason why Sri Lanka could score 240 on the board.

Sri Lanka posts challenging total for India once more

Pathum Nissanka was out for a first ball duck as he fell to Mohammed Siraj to give India the perfect start. Avishka Ferando and Kusal Mendis then got together as the two forged a partnership of 74 runs to take the attack back to India.

Washington Sundar struck in a space of seven balls to dismiss both the set batters. Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka added 32 runs for the 4th wicket. That stand was broken as Axar Patel deceived Samarawickrama in the flight and had him caught by Virat Kohli.

Sri Lanka yet again lost two wickets in a space of 7 balls, as Janith Liyange and Charith Asalanka fell quickly. Dunith Wellage yet again managed to get under the skin of Indian bowlers as he added 72 runs with Kamindu Mendis in just over 10 overs for the 7th wicket.

Dunith Wellage scored 39 off 35 balls as Kamindu Mendis scored 40 runs off 44 balls. Akila Dhananjaya swung his bat around to score 15 runs from 13 balls as he fell in the last ball of the innings. India will need to score 241 to win and the men in blue will be wary after the collapse they suffered in the last match.
