Team India made an early impact as they were asked to bowl for the second game in succession. Mohammed Siraj who has a good record against Sri Lanka struck with the very first ball of the match. The hosts lost batting star Pathum Nissanka much to the shock of the huge crowd that had come to watch the match.
Mohammed Siraj got the ball to move right from the start and Nissanka went fishing for the ball. Siraj was able to get a nick off the bat as KL Rahul took a simple catch to give India the early breakthrough. Pathum Nissanka had scored a crucial fifty in the first match of the series on Friday.
Earlier in the day, Charith Asalanka yet again won the toss and chose to bat first. The Indian team was unchanged but Sri Lanka made two changes to their team. Wanindu Hasaranga was out of the series due to a hamstring injury. Jefferey Vandersey came into the team while Kamindu Mendis came in for Mohammad Shiraz.
India looking to move past disappointing first-game
It was a disappointing first game for Rohit Sharma and his men. India were all out for 230 while chasing 231 to win and tied the game. It was surprising that Rohit Sharma opted to play the same team.
Speaking at the toss Rohit Sharma said “It's okay we know what to expect when we chase. It has to be. You cannot always go and play with the same mindset and same way. You got to adapt to the conditions and then play freely. That's the most important thing (to play with freedom) we want to do as a team. Same XI. Not really worried we didn't pull off the last game. Both teams played well, result not going in favour was fair for that game”
Charith Asalanka said “We will bat first. I think so, it's looks similar to the other day. Not much as a different as a captain for this game. Kamindu and Vandersay come in for Hasaranga and Shiraz". The team that wins the game will ensure they do not lose the series.
