Former CSK skipper MS Dhoni came up in the batting order to rescue his side in a run chase against Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing 11th game of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025). Dhoni came to bat at number 7 for CSK against RR when they had lost 5 wickets at the score of 129 runs in 15.5 overs.

Dhoni showed two big hits as he smashed a four and a six when CSK were nearing the target but his knock was ended by a brilliant boundary-line catch executed by RR’s Shimron Hetmyer on the first ball of the last over.

Dhoni’s dismissal in the last over, drew a lot of disappointed reactions from the CSK fans who were present there at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The video of this moment also went viral on social media as soon as it was shared by a user on X (formerly Twitter). Notably, it happened to be the first instance in the ongoing IPL 2025 when Dhoni got dismissed in the three matches so far.

Speaking of the action of the game, CSK won the toss and asked RR to bat first; batting first, the hosts posted a decent total of 182 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Star number three batter Nitish Rana played a decisive and match-winning knock of 81 runs off just 36 balls, with 10 fours and five sixes. Following him, skipper Riyan Parag also scored 39 runs off 28 balls, with two fours and two sixes.

Apart from these two, Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer also contributed with 20 and 19 runs, respectively. Khaleel Ahmed, Noor Ahmed, and Matheesha Pathirana scalped 2 wickets each for CSK in the first innings, alongside a wicket each bagged by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.

While chasing the target, CSK were restricted to the score of 176 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in the entire 20 overs and lost the game by 6 runs, and faced their second consecutive defeat in the tournament. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 63 runs off 44 runs, with seven fours and a six.

Besides him, it was Ravindra Jadeja who displayed a bit of resilience, scoring 32 runs off 22 balls, with one four and a six. Notably, it is the first win for the Rajasthan Royals in their ongoing IPL 2025 campaign.
